DREW'S DIRTBUGZ REVIEW

WELCOME TO THE SECTION OF THE MAGAZINE DEVOTED ENTIRELY TO OFF-ROAD VW'S...

These drawings are based on the way that I build a tubular chassis for off-road racing. They are not to scale! Measurements were not provided as I have found that every chassis tends to come out a little different. Use these as a basic reference and if you are planning on racing make sure to get a copy of your racing rules. This design has passed tech inspections for SODA and SCORE racing events. Most smaller racing events base their rules on one or both of these organizations. This design is based on using a Chenweth Class 11 roll cage kit and Bugpack front and rear double-tube bumpers (all available at OASIS VW). By using these items as a foundation the home builder is able to utilize straight tubing for the rest of the chassis eliminating the need to buy an expensive tubing bender. You will need a "fish mouth" cutting tool (I'll try to find some sources to list for these).
