I started writing articles for Brock in October of 1998. I thought it would
be cool to write and share information for VW enthusiasts. It has been really
fun contributing to the magazine. Without me, many people would have never
seen the world of the Vanagon enthusiast. When people ask what size tire
fits their bug, I always answer. When people question my sanity, I say that
I am crazy. Crazy about VW. All in all, I have enjoyed my time on the internet.
I gotta thank all of you that have supported me. Its for those positive VW
enthusiasts that I write articles for.
I am less that two months from turning 19 years old. The choices I have made
in the past year have been the hardest I have ever made. Most of them I will
have to live with for the rest of my life. I dropped out of high school to
attend a continuation school. The only thing I learned at that school is
that teachers don't care about their students. Its really depressing to see
kids your own age snorting cocaine in class. I dropped out of school completely
to work at an interior shop. The pay was great and I learned a couple things
but it wasn't what I loved to do. I quit after a couple weeks so I could
prepare myself to go to Universal Technical Institute of Phoenix Arizona.
What I love to do is work on cars. I want to be a mechanic. UTI is the only
school that I feel will give the training I need. There is nothing greater
to me than creating or fixing something that can take you places. A car is
more than a box with wheels. Its an expression of the owner. My Vanagon is
clean, healthy, and slow. Now, don't think Im slow. Many people who have
had conversations with me have discovered that I am a very fast thinker.
The fact I am a great speedreader contributes a lot to that. My Vanagon has
taught me a lot about myself. I can now say I have conquered the VW Waterboxer.
I am the only person in my family that has successfully rebuilt a car and
have run perfect.
I am very stubborn in my ways. My Mom says "I taught you to be selfish. It's
the only way you will get anywhere in life." That is so true. My Girlfriend
has taught me a lot about life too. I learned not to be materialistic. I
would rather save money than spend it. Brock has taught me a lot about the
internet. A lot of people have helped me. In return I am going to be a success.
I will have a really great life and smile all the time. I will also keep
my humor. If I don't get in contact with all you people in the future, I
just want you to know that I am Kenny Beghtel (pronounced VAY-TEL) and one
day I will be the owner of a auto repair business and the master technician
of the shop. I promise to give the most honest and professional service possible.
So keep an eye out for me.
It has been so great working in the Virtual VWMagazine office. The air conditioning
doesn't work, no pay, the roof leaks, and the computer works
sometimes. It's time for me to move on. I thank everyone for their support.
Phoenix Arizona, Here I come.
Kenny Beghtel
