I was able to take this car around the side of the dragstrip @ bugorama. I hit first, and then second, with the car slamming me back in the seat when the tach hit 3K. Most of you also know
I have not been a big fan of the new beetle. The new beetle 1.8 turbo is a quick car,
a car that any teenager could have some fun in, and some trouble too. I believe the list price
on one of these new beetle turbo's is approximately over 20,000 dollars. While I find this price
outrageous, I also feel that the New Beetle turbo is really a fun and fast car to drive. Personally, with $20,000 dollars in my pocket I would go down to a honda dealership and buy a new
honda SiR ( 160HP STOCK ), for $17,000. But if you are determined to get your new car as a volkswagen, prepare for the big pricetag. Also prepare for high maintanance costs down the road if you go with VW. It is hard to say how the market will fluxuate over the next six months
for the turbos. People want them, and they are downright fast.
If you get the chance, go test drive a new beetle at a dealership. I think you will be impressed with the handling & performance. If you have children... and want to save a few dollars, go buy the honda. UNTIL NEXT TIME.

Brock Finally Drives the NB 1.8 Turbo - By Brock Eastman
Well I finally did it, drove a new beetle! Many of you out there know that I have not been a
big fan of volkswagen of america lately. Their nazi-type business tactics have left a bad taste in my mouth,
and also many other volkswagen enthusiasts around the world. I was offered the chance to drive
the new beetle at the sacramento bugorama on september 5, 1999. Dave Cormack, editor of VW Trends magazine
has been using the 1.8L Turbo Beetle that McMullenargus publishing leases through Volkswagen of America. Thanks for the test drive Dave !
