Meeting the second type!
Part 1
by Guif from the VBM
The type 2 is considered as the little brother of the bug, the first member of the aircooled family, he came on earth to work hard, not fast but hard, to carry weights and persons on the post war road. The most fascinating thing with the combi is that such a perfect design has no real author. Ok, Ben Pon (dutch VW importer in '50) made the draft, quickly, but who designed the V between the headlights?
When you look at a type2 you have the same impression than looking at a beetle, it seems to tell you "hey, look at me and be happy!" the german name expresses that feeling very well, Bulli.
At first, the type 2 was overall the panelvan, a box with an engine, doors to load it easily, he conqueered a bunch of artisans for its reliability, as good as the beetle, VWag understood that such a vehicle could find a place in other rules, and they first imagined a COMBInable car, to work during the week and to have
a well deserved family leisure when the week-end comes. Rear seats were easily removables, the 11 window came and is now well known all over the world as "combi", a lot of people call all kind of type 2 only that way, it became a sort  of generic name.
As I said above, the combi was made to work, in order to make it more usable, the engineers of VWag built other specific versions and the factory was able to paint directly the cars at your company's colours. Among all the "working" type 2, my favorite is the crewcab, I cannot explain why but this car is very attractive, his profile is dynamic, it promises you to

carry surf boards, or mountain bikes, and at the same time it allows you to take 5 or 6 friends with you, most of them because they could do that easily, the problem was that tools, materials and workers were taken in for a ride much more often than surfboards, mountain bikes and happy fellows! >>>>>>>to part 2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
