Vanagon Seatbelt Adjustment
| Do the seatbelts in your Vanagon rub against your neck? If
so, heres a way to fix that. This job will take you about a half-hour to
accomplish and can be done by anyone with a little muscle. I say this because
the top seat belt anchor/hanger is really tight. I don't recommend anyone
doing this that is over 6 feet tall or you may run the risk of serious injury.
Please, be careful when fixing your seat belts. Replace them if they are
torn, faded, or missing. Keep in mind the seatbelts are there to keep your
brain off the windshield. Now that I have said that, get these tools: A small
flathead screwdriver, ratchet, 17mm socket, and a large phillips screw driver.
Work on one side at a time. Lets, say the drivers side first.
Locate the drivers side B-pillar. Take your Phillips screwdriver and
remove the white colored plug. Take the flat-head screwdriver and carefully
pry the cover off the seat belt anchor. It should look like
this: |
Now that everything is out of the way, remove the 17mm bolt that holds the
seat belt hanger. After you have done that, place the assembly over the hole
created by the plug you removed, install the bolt. Now that you have installed
the bolt, don't tighten it. Sit in the seat, adjust it to your liking, then
fasten your seatbelt. Is it more comfortable than it used to be? If so, proceed
to torque the bolt to 30 ft-lbs. Replace the phillips plug and cover for
the hanger. If you wish, do the procedure over on the passenger side. Your
done, it should look like this:
