There
are only a very few Type 3 Cabriolet's known to be in existence. Brian Fye
decided one day that he had to have one. Built out of a 64 Notchback. He
started with the removal of the roof section. Due to the loss of rigidity
from removing the roof, the pan had to be reinforced by a steel runners.
The pan was also shortened 10" to accommodate the mid-engine layout. Built
by Rick Taylor, the motor is a hot 1934cc with dual 40mm Dellortos. Horsepower
is rated at 132. Plans are to add a Dick Landy supercharger in the coming
months. The transmission runs stock ratios with a flopped ring and pinion.
The rims are EMPI 8-Spokes which are color matched to the paint job. 135
tries in front, 165s on the rear. Interior features include white Scat Elite
seats, Formuling France steering wheel, VDO Classic gauges, Custom wiring
and carpet. Louie Knokol gets credit for the body customizing all done in
steel.
